2013

Well hello there!

Happy New Year friends! I hope each of you had a fabulous Christmas season. I sure did. It was time to power down and spend time with family, and it was just what I needed.

Now I’m back and 2013 has got me so excited, guys. I’m not big on New Years resolutions, but I felt inspired to clear the mental clutter and get my mind ready to “Make Things Happen in 2013.” Slogan sound familiar? Lara Casey, publisher and editor-in-chief of Southern Weddings mag, spent her first blog posts of the New Year sharing a five-part goal setting series titled “MakingThings Happen in 2013”, and girls, IT IS AMAZE. If you aren’t familiar with it, I challenge each of you to pop on over to her blog and get started. You will thank me. Actually you will thank her. You can thank me for suggesting you check it out though. Please come back and tell me what you think! Whether you are focusing on business or personal goals, this series will have you ready to accomplish big things in 2013. I really can't say enough good things about it.

God has sure been good to Molly Elizabeth Design throughout the past year, and I feel so lucky and blessed. I thank you all for cheering me on and encouraging me. Your sweet words really do mean so much to me.

Cheers to 2013 and all that it has in store!

A+J = True Love and Fabulous Clients

Whew! It has been a while since we last chatted. November was crazy busy, but in a really good way! We had a whirlwind yet fab wedding to quickly plan and execute in November, and everything went famously. The bride and groom (who are currently playing in Aruba) were just too cute for words. Pictures to come soon!

Tonight I want to share pictures from Amanda and Jason's wedding. I met this couple back in February and fell in love. We just clicked. That's the best part about this job. Truly becoming great friends with my clients and sharing in their big day. Anyway, the wedding was at the beautiful Mission San Luis. The always amazing Jen and Jenna from J&J Weddings were the photographers and Andrew's provided a delicious fare, as usual.

Here are some snapshots from their big day:

We love you Amanda and Jason! Thanks for letting M.E.D. be a part of your special day!

Peplum Perfect!

Friday's Trend from last week's New York International Bridal Week

We're flashing back to the 80's, baby! This peplum trend isn't going anywhere for a while. Enjoy our favorites!

Top left: Cocoe Voci- This grecian style peplum is so unique because it is very sheer and light but also is two-tiered. We love the flower detail because it is not too over the top! The belt is higher than the waist which also adds a very simplistic look!

Bottom left: Junko Yoshioka- Brook Dress. Love the combination of the sweetheart neckline, the peplum skirt and the mermaid skirt! The detail on this dress is elegant and soft! Such a gorgeous gown.

Right: Carolina Herrera- A very formal and sleek look. The silk throughout the whole dress gives it simplicity but also has a "business-like" edge. We love how the top is strapless and straight across. So classy.

Thanks for staying tuned on M.E.D's coverage of New York International Bridal Week's Trends.
We would love to hear your thoughts on this trend.
Happy Friday!

Sequins+Beads Galore!

And the bling is back, but not overdone! The beading on these dresses adds elegance and sophistication.
Here are our favorite picks from the bead and sequin trend!
Left: Theia- This beautiful strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline made of beading creates a focus on the top of the dress and the elegance and simplicity throughout. Love the sheerness of the bottom and the up-do!

Top right: Kenneth Pool- Elody. Such a light, fitted and sheer dress! Beading is minimal but the cap sleeves and sweetheart neckline give the dress character. The back is not shown, but it is beautiful with a cut out and lace on top. Pretty sheer train as well!

Second on right: Eve of Milady- Spring 2013! So this one has more sequin and beading than the others but it is so simply crafted as it fades into a mermaid trumpet skirt and then remains solely silk at the bottom. Love the sweetheart neckline on this one, just somethin' about it!

Middle: Lazaro- This dress reminds us of a fairytale. The champagne color with a drastic sweetheart neckline and the sheer ballgown bottom is so princess-like. The sequin and beading is larger so it really shows. The dress is higher in the front than the back which is also very unique.

Second to last on right: Kenneth Pool- Spring 2013! Love this style ballgown! Not only is the color so unique but the sheer and silk shift on the bottom of the dress is so different and majestic. The beading on the top is not too overwhelming. Absolutely stunning.

Bottom right: Kenneth Pool- This gown is the perfect combination between the bead and sequin trend and the ruffle trend! I love the corset bodice with the beading, which is very elaborate. Because that is the only part that is very detailed, the ruffled ballgown bottom makes the dress look so soft and "drape-y"! Fabulous!

Kenneth Pool was the popular designer for this trend. Let us know what your favorites are!
Stay tuned for tomorrow's post on the most fabulous trend yet!!

Part Dos of our NY Bridal Market favorites!

Tuesday's Trend from New York International Bridal Week

Not only are ruffles showing up on more invitations, cakes, and accessories, they're also being seen more on bridal gowns for weddings in 2012! Check out a few of our favorites below!
Top left: Jenny Yoo- Spring 2013! The perfect combination of the sleeve and ruffle trend. The simplicity of this dress is something that makes the single ruffle stand out and add character.

Middle: Judd Waddell- Again, a simple top and sweetheart style along with the black fabric belt to place elegant emphasis on the defined ruffles make this dress a perfect match for someone who wants minimal ruffles.

Bottom left: Reem Acra- This dress is the perfect combination of the sleeve, bead and sequin and the ruffle trend from this bridal week. The elaborate design of the top half of the dress meshes beautiful into the soft and small ruffles that give a feather look to the bottom of the dress. The lace cap sleeves complete the look!

Right: Theia- Spring 2013! This beautiful dress accentuates the elaborate but soft ruffles on the bottom by simplifying strapless and sweetheart neckline top.

Stay tuned for more of our favorites! Tell us what you like!

Part One of our NY Bridal Week Favorites!

Sleeved wedding dresses make their comeback at New York Bridal Market thanks to some fab designers. And we are still loving the Kate Middleton inspiration! Here are some of our favorites!
Tell us which ones you love!

Top left corner: Lela Rose- Combination of the sleeve and sheer trend. The sheer neckline that meshes in with the lace sleeves makes for a beautiful shape of the shoulders.

Bottom left: Legends by Romona Keveza- Combination of the sleeve and "lace tattoo" trend with an illusion neckline as well as full length lace sleeves. Absolutely sophisticated!

Bottom middle: Theia Grecian inspiration with only lace sleeves! This sleek and fitting look is stunning.

Bottom right corner: Christos Spring 2013- hot off the runway! Combination of the sleeve and "lace tattoo" trend with a sweetheart neckline, gold belt and full length lace sleeves.

Middle right side: Oscar de la Renta Silk dress and taffeta bustier with a Guipure lace caraco. Very different but also uniquely and beautifully designed.

Top right: Carolina Herrera Extremely elegant with sheer draping over short sleeves. The perfect combination of soft ruffles with a beaded belt for shape definition.

Stay tuned this week for daily updates on our favorite picks from bridal week!

Kiersten's Corner: Europe, Round 2

Summer 2011 abroad ended, Fall and Spring semester of Sophomore year began, Summer 2012 approached and the begging ensued.

I probably begged my parents for about 3 months until finally I had my dad on the phone and he was asking about flights. Things were getting realistic and I loved it. My roommate Michelle is a dual citizen of Norway and the United States. She was going to be in Norway for the entire summer and I wanted to join her.

Once the round trip flight was booked to Norway, Michelle and I worked hard on an itinerary for our travels while in Europe. We planned to visit:  Austria, Switzerland and Sweden. My allowance was two and a half weeks. Ready, set, go!

When I got there we had 3 days before we were jet setting and traveling by train. I still believe traveling by train is the cheapest and most beautiful way to travel once in Europe. Our first flight was from Oslo to Frankfurt, Germany. From Frankfurt we took the train to Geneva, Switzerland (which was a full 18 hours of travel and we were exhausted). In Geneva we stayed in a hotel on the water and planned for a day trip to Interlaken, Switzerland. In Interlaken we befriended a tour guide named Phillip who took us all around Interlaken, to some of the prettiest lakes and the most magnificent waterfall I have ever seen. We got a chance to pet some cows in a field which was something I don't know I will ever experience again unless I go to a petting zoo.

After Switzerland we made our way to Austria where I made plans for us to meet and stay with my cousins. I had never met them before so I was extremely eager. We had been communicating through Facebook and we met them at the train station. From then on, the trip in Austria was nothing but a blast. No stress and just plain fun! My cousins are on my mom's side and they are my Grandmother's Niece's children. My Grandma is the last of the Grandma's living on my mom's side. Michelle and I attended Weisses Fest, a white party for famous people and entertainment and we shopped and toured Linz and Vienna; just to name a FEW of the highlights of Austria.

After visiting Austria we took the train to Berlin where we stayed for the night before our flight to Stockholm for the last leg of our trip! We flew out of Berlin and arrived in Stockholm. I have extended family from Sweden, no longer there, but it is still a part of my heritage so I was really excited. On the first night we stayed at the Red Boat Hotel which is literally a red boat on the water directly near the city center of Stockholm. Michelle met up with a friend who kindly welcomed us to stay at her home for the last night before we left for Oslo. Being back in Oslo never felt so comforting. Between the running between trains and the use of maps we were ready to be back to familiarity. 3 days in Oslo to just hang out and shop was not a bad way to end the fast-paced yet amazing trip.
